11. The Book of EstherJon Chia (CO&CA, 11:50, E-209)
Esther is one of two OT books named after a woman, the other being Ruth, and is one of several not quoted in the NT. It is one of two OT books that do not mention God, the other being Song of Songs, and is one of the two that deal specifically with persecution of the Hebrew people, the other being Exodus.
Esther contains the account of the origin of the Feast of Purim, one of two festivals adopted by the postexilic Jewish community that are not found in the Mosaic Law, the other being Hanukkah. These are very unique features in this particular book in the Bible. We will explore how this book fits into the canon and see what exactly this book is about. We will be studying this book in a Bible-study format.

12. Genesis Chuck Lau & Larry Liu (FA, 11:50, E-100)
The Book of Genesis tells of the beginning of all things and is therefore basic to truths set forth in later books. As with biblical truth in general, this book has been a stumbling block for many who have approached it with preconceived notions or anti-supernatural biases. But for those who recognize it as the Word of God, whom it seeks to serve, Genesis is a source of comfort and edification. This course is organized in such a way that certain controversial topics (such as creationism and the Flood) raised by contemporary scholars and scientists are dealt with in details.
